            The term of the Lok Sabha, unless dissolved earlier is five years from the date appointed for
      its first meeting. However, while a Proclamation of Emergency is in operation, this period may
      be extended by Parliament by law for a period not exceeding one year at a time and not
      extending in any case, beyond a period of six months after the Proclamation is or has ceased to
      operate. Sixteen Lok Sabhas have been constituted so far. The term of each Lok Sabha and its

      Qualification for Membership of Parliament
            In order to be chosen a member of Parliament, a person must be a citizen of India and not
      less than 30 years of age in the case of Rajya Sabha and not less than 25 years of age in the case
      of Lok Sabha. Additional qualifications may be prescribed by Parliament by law.

            1. Under Article 94 of the Constitution, in case of dissolution of the Lok Sabha, the
                Speaker does not vacate his office until immediately before the first meeting of the
                House after dissolution.
